Whether you’ve just driven away with a vinyl car wraps for personal use or for promoting your business, knowing what to do to keep it from fading is important. While it’s still brand new, there are certain things you can do as preventative maintenance to protect your new wrap and keep it looking brand new for years to come.
If your wrap fades prematurely, promoting your business will be much less effective, giving the wrong impression of how well you take care of your image and brand. It will also make it difficult for drivers and pedestrians to quickly make out the contact information at a glance.
So, what can you do to keep your wrap looking fresh for as long as possible?
Be Mindful About Parking
If you must park outside, park in the shade. This will also protect your vehicle from rainfall and exposure to extreme temperatures, slowing the fading process. If you have a fleet of company cars, when not in use at night, for example, keep them parked in a garage to protect them. There is also the option of an outdoor carport, whether for a residential property or a commercial one. Whether it’s winter and your car is getting icy or it’s summer and the temperatures are blisteringly hot, weathering can very quickly wear down your wrap.
Avoid the Sun
We all know the sun has a negative effect on vinyl and plastics, softening and fading them quickly. As previously mentioned, park in the shade whenever possible. Frequent, long exposure to the sun over time makes it difficult to remove your car wrap should the time come for a replacement. This is especially important to keep in mind when the sun is at its strongest during noon.
Be Gentle With Washing
It’s highly recommended that you hand-wash your vehicle, as drive-through washes are too abrasive and can cause your wrap to peel. Even if your car gets really dirty, take your time to gently soften the built-up dirt and don’t scrub too hard, as you can take off layers of pigment. If you do go to a car wash, choose one that doesn’t use brushes.
Know That Replacement is Unavoidable
Although there are many things you can do to avoid premature fading and peeling, it’s important to realize that you will have to eventually replace your vinyl car wrap. Usually, replacement is recommended every 5 or so years, or whenever you notice your car wraps starts looking worn out and faded. If you take really good care of it, you may increase its longevity past 5 years.
